The end of Occupations

During the last seven months, many educational institutions along Chile have been on a take, this means that universities and schools have been occupied by the students, expressing their discontent about the actual educational system in Chile.
Even though these occupations have been positive as a pressure method for the government and have meant a new way for the students to express themselves and be related to society, the truth is that so far now, most of the petitions asked by the mobilized students haven’t been heard or accomplished.
Nowdays, two of the most representative occupations have ended, the well known boys school: Instituto Nacional and the prestigious institution, Universidad de Chile. Both gave the take away voluntarily, so that next year classes can start normally.
There are still many universities and schools that haven’t deposed the occupations, like Liceo Carmela Carvajal, where the students that are inside the take have been busy this whole time organizing activities to keep the movement going.
Hopefully, both sides (mobilized students and government) will come to an agreement and future generations will have a better education.

from pain to hapiness, a different restaurant

El quita penas (recoleta 1480)
This famous restaurant, located in front of the general cemetery is named after the grieving mourners pass to quench thirst and hunger when they come to say goodbye to their loved ones to the cemetery
With an aesthetic of typical Chilean Soda Fountain with a rich homemade food and a loud jukebox and the advantage of being in the vicinity of General and Catholic Cemeteries choppy for a while makes you forget the pain of loss.
You can not miss this picturesque place, much less to taste its delicious homemade food, a rich roast potatoes, mashed with ribs accompanied by a rich "pebre spooned" drinking punch, Piper and the delicious Chilean wine.

LOLLAPALOOZA 2012

It’s one of the biggest music festivals ever accomplished in Chile and the world, and it’s here to stay. Created 20 years ago by Perry Ferrel, leader of the band Jane’s Addiction, the festival takes place for the second time in Chile. The last version of the festival was also performed in Chile, being Santiago the city chosen for this honor, due to it was the first time Lollapalooza was exported outside USA.
The 2012 version comes full of varied artists: Foo Fighters (created by the ex-drummer of Nirvana, Dave Grohl), the Icelandic and famous singer Björk, the indie rock band Arctic Monkeys and the psychedelic band MGMT, just to name a few. The national repertory is also a mixture of genres, you’ll be able to experience de performance of artists like Los Jaivas and Electrodomésticos, both very important for Chilean music. Newcoming artists such as Föllakzoid and We are the grand will also make their appearance, just like Fernando Milagros and El sueño de la casa propia. The list is endless, just like the fun and activities that will bring Lollapalooza 2012 to your musical experiences.

Nearest to the Sky

A few time ago a particular place opened the doors.
It was 20.00 o'clock when we arrived to the base waiting to take the bus which drop us in front of a very unique place.
Pailalen is a fresh place which is not just a restorant, in the beginnig it was a observatory not open to the public, but the owners decided to establish a familiar business.
Flooded in a warm darkness we wait for a few minutes, looking the nice landscape that "Cajon del Maipo" showed us.
a captivating place that let us learn about the constellations and learn about peculiar food. The attention is great, the atmosphere loaded with jazz and soul, and the light always was subtle to keep the vision adapted to see the stars.

From the Center of the City

The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, in the San Cristobal Hill is one of the biggest attractions of the city, which attracts many bilievers, it is on of the main temples of the Catholic Church in Chile.
"La Virgen del Carmen" is the patron sait of Chile, as well as in Brazil it is the Christ The Redeemer, and this great icon represents a height of 863 meters above the sea.
To reacj this place you can either walk up through the funicular up the hill.
the image of the Immaculate Conception is 14 meters high and the pedestal on wich sits 8.30 meters... on its pedestal is a small chapel, wich, on April 1, 1987, SS John Paul II prayed and blessed yhe city of Santiago. The image is illuminated at night by electric lights placed on their sides, so it can be observed from all over the capital of Chile during the day and night. The model of the image belongs to the Italian sculptor Jacometti, and is similar to conditions found in Sapin's Square in Rome. It was built in cast iron by Val D'Osne Foundry, Paris by the French Ambassador Henri Salvador Sanfuentes. At the foot of the image, is an amphiteather to officiate mass or other religious office.
