Barrio Lastarria: full of culture

If you’re looking for a nice, quiet place to walk, eat and have a great time, this complex of restaurants, museums, fairs and exclusive stores is perfect. Full of beautiful buildings, little stores and cozy cafes, Victorino Lastarria street is ideal to go watch a movie  and then grab a bite or having an ice cream in the café/soda fount Emporio la Rosa, famous for making the most delicious cone ice creams in Santiago.
On Thursdays, Fridays and weekends there’s this great antiques fair, where you can find amazing unique things.
But if you’re looking for art, right in the middle of the street, there is the MAC (Contemporary Art Museum) where you can find a lot of interesting exhibitions. There are also street artists that play their instrument or sing while you’re having your meal in the restaurants.
Anyway, when you walk through this street, you’ll always be entertained and nicely surprised.

From the Center of the City

The Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, in the San Cristobal Hill is one of the biggest attractions of the city, which attracts many bilievers, it is on of the main temples of the Catholic Church in Chile.
"La Virgen del Carmen" is the patron sait of Chile, as well as in Brazil it is the Christ The Redeemer, and this great icon represents a height of 863 meters above the sea.
To reacj this place you can either walk up through the funicular up the hill.
the image of the Immaculate Conception is 14 meters high and the pedestal on wich sits 8.30 meters... on its pedestal is a small chapel, wich, on April 1, 1987, SS John Paul II prayed and blessed yhe city of Santiago. The image is illuminated at night by electric lights placed on their sides, so it can be observed from all over the capital of Chile during the day and night. The model of the image belongs to the Italian sculptor Jacometti, and is similar to conditions found in Sapin's Square in Rome. It was built in cast iron by Val D'Osne Foundry, Paris by the French Ambassador Henri Salvador Sanfuentes. At the foot of the image, is an amphiteather to officiate mass or other religious office.
